"Leslie R. French, a prominent and highly respected citizen of Schenevus, died Sunday noon, February 5th, 1922, at the home of his son, Harry G. French, after an illness of nearly a year's duration, following a stroke of paralysis. Mr. French was born in Decatur township, September 18, 1847, the son of Dr. James and California French. He was married on February 2, 1868, at Wornersville, Schoharie county, to Miss Ann Groff of Westford. The years of their material life, which extended over fifty years were spent in Worcester, Elk Creek, and the vicinity of Schenevus. Since the death of Mrs. French, which occurred in 1919, the deceased had lived with his son at whose home he died. Mr. French served the town of Maryland on the Board of Supervisors and for several years was Justice of the Peace ... The surviving family are one son, Harry G. French of Schenevus one daughter, Mrs. Theodore Knapp of Elk Creek; four grandchildren, Russell and Lewis French of Schenevus; Fred Knapp of Elk Creek; Mrs. Ernest Sissum, Worcester."
