As the youngest daughter of Rufus Harvey Russell Fryar and Margaret Della Ault, Marjorie was born in Athens, Tennessee, and then moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, the following year where she was raised and educated.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Herbert Glenn Bryant in May of 1996; by five sisters and one brother all of Knoxville; and by her daughter, Ann Bryant Bird of Cleveland, in September, 2014.
She is survived by daughter Glenda Bryant Kyker and husband Randall L. Kyker of Athens, Tennessee; son John David Bryant and wife Sandy H. Bryant of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; son-in-law Larry O. Bird of Cleveland; grandchildren Lee Kyker Stallings of Cleveland; Amy Bird Gibson of Birmingham, Alabama; Joel Glenn Kyker and wife Amy B. Kyker of Old Hickory, Tennessee; David Bryant Bird and wife Alyson C. Bird of Etowah, Tennessee; Charles Jeffery Bryant and wife Amy C. Bryant of Knoxville, Tennessee; great-grandchildren Noah Stallings, Mady Stallings, Joel Stallings; Julia Kyker, Lauren Kyker; Kelsie Gibson, Meredith Gibson, Emily Gibson, Owen Gibson; Jonah Bird, Daniel Bird, Rose Bird, Jack Bird, Clementine Bird, Violet Bird; Mya Bryant.
After her family moved to Cleveland, Tennessee, in 1955, she was the first Tupperware dealer in Bradley County. She became chief deputy clerk for the County Court Clerk from 1958 until 1962 then worked at Hardwick Stove Company for 20 years, from 1962 until retirement in 1982.
At the time of her death she was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church where she was an active member in her Sunday School class and church until no longer able to attend; and was a former member of Broad Street United Methodist. Her last residence was at Clare Bridge Dementia Facility. During her life, she was a Gray Lady volunteer, gift shop volunteer and a baby bonnet maker for Bradley Memorial Hospital. She also volunteered at local elementary schools. Home Demonstration Club, Spice of Life Club, Pilot Club, and a lively card and game playing group were some of her favorite activities. She liked to sew, cook, make crafts, entertain, pull pranks, host parties and entertain the grandchildren and the great-grands, watch the Atlanta Braves, and keep the family in touch by arranging family reunions. She once participated in a "Know Your Town" type program and rode with some of the police officers in their patrol cars as a sidekick. Marge was a cheerful, positive thinking, upbeat, virtuous lady who was quoted as saying, "I love people and I love to laugh…, but I don't like to be laughed at," she laughingly added. Traveling was another interest and now she has made a final journey to Glory Land.
A graveside will be conducted at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens, South Ocoee Street, Cleveland, at 2:30 p.m., on Sunday, October 26, 2014.
