CHIPPEWA FALLS - Mrs. Amelia Backus, a life long resident of Chippewa county died at the Rutledge home Sunday afternoon at 3:40 after a short illness. Mrs. Backus, the daughter of John Fox and Mary Dole Fox, was born in Chippewa county Sept. 9, 1869. She was married to Herman Backus of Tilden, Chippewa county, in 1891. They lived on a farm in Tilden where they remained until 1921 when they came to Chippewa Falls to make their home. Mrs. Backus entered the Rutledge Home in Jan. 1939 where she has since resided. Her husband preceded her in death in 1937. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Ezra Boettcher, four sisters, Mrs. Henry Backus, Mrs. Phillip Schweitzer, Mrs. Fred Boettcher, all of Chippewa Falls, Mrs. F. C. Boettcher of Milwaukee, Wis., one granddaughter, one grandson, several nieces and nephews. The body will lie in state at the Hogseth Funeral home from Tuesday morning until Wednesday noon when it will be taken to the Evangelical Church. Services will be at the church Wednesday at 2 p.m., Rev C. M. Shendel officiating. Burial will be in Tilden cemetery.
