The funeral service will be at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Patrick Sparling officiating. Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Leigh, Nebraska.Gass Haney Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Esther Barjenbruch was born June 9, 1915, in Colfax County (near Howells), Nebraska, to John and Clara (Bisping) Fuchs. She attended Colfax and Stanton County schools, graduating from Stanton High School in 1932. She received her teaching certificate at the age of 16 and began teaching in a one room school in Stanton County. Esther was united in marriage to Oliver Barjenbruch on June 7, 1939, at Zion Lutheran Church in Leigh, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Leigh before moving to Columbus in 1950. Esther continued her own education and graduated from Wayne State College with a Bachelors Degree in Education. She taught school for 54 years, retiring in 1985 from Bellwood Public Schools. Esther was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus.
