Booneville, KY – Ruth Gabbard Aker, 93, widow of Dr. John Raymond Aker, passed away Saturday, November 13, 2004 at her residence. An Owsley County native, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Isaac Hugh and Elizabeth Eversole Gabbard, born on May 20, 1911. Mrs. Aker worked at the Owsley County Public Library to the age of 91, and was honored as one of Kentucky's oldest employees. She was the former postmistress at Arnett, Kentucky. She was a member of the Booneville Presbyterian Church and was also a quilter and craftswoman. She is survived by a brother, Michael Gabbard, and his wife Marjorie; two sisters, Nancy Ellis and Louise Ferdig and a sister-in-law, Naomi Gabbard, all of Booneville, Kentucky; six nieces and six nephews, their children and grandchildren; numerous other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 16, 2004, 11:00 o'clock, at Booneville Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Joe Powlas officiating. Visitation held on Monday, November 15 from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm at Searcy and Strong Funeral Home. Burial in the Shepherd Memorial Cemetery in Booneville with Searcy and Strong Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Booneville Sentinel
