Ecaterina Gabor was born in the the District of Siret, in the Duchy of Bucovina in the Austro-Hungarian Empire (today in Ukraine), probably in or near the village of Tereblecea. Her mother's name was Mariana Gabor. Ecaterina came to Canada on the S.S. Lake Michigan, arriving at Quebec City on 3 May 1911, proceeding immediately to Baudette, Minnesota, where she joined her brother Lavrentie Gabor who was living there. In Minnesota, she was known as Catherine, Catherinea, Katrina, and Katherin.
On 3 June 1911 in Baudette, Catherine married Stefan Crusnitchi (1883-1965), who was also an immigrant from Bucovina, from Tereblecea. In Baudette, they were known as Steve and Catherine Krusniski or Krusnicki. They had two daughters and two sons -- Zenovia ("Vika"), Georgi (George), Petre (Peter), and Natalia (Nellie) -- but Steve and Catherine divorced during the 1920s, and Catherine reverted to her maiden name Gabor and their children's last name also was changed to an Americanised version of Gabor -- "Giber." After her divorce, she remarried in the 1920s to William Drobot (1888-1957) and took her new husband's surname, but her children kept the surname of Giber.

Mrs. William Drobot Died Tuesday of a Strange Skin Disease Leaves Many Friends
The community was shocked Tuesday afternoon to learn of the death of Mrs. William Drobot, well known and respected citizen of Baudette. Two weeks previously Mrs. Drobot was taken ill with pemphergus [sic -- pemphigus], a rare and strange disease of the skin, and in spite of everything that could be done she gradually weakened until death ended her suffering.
Mrs. Drobot's death is exceptionally sad, coming as it did only a few weeks after the death of her son, George, who died following an auto accident.
Funeral services were held at the Catholic Church this morning, and many sorrowing friends were in attendance. Father Stumps conducted the services and paid a fine tribute to the memory of Mrs. Drobot. A profusion of flowers attested to the sympathy of friends, and there were also many Mass cards.
Mrs. Drobot was born in Austria 49 years ago, and she had lived in Baudette for the last 25 years. Besides her husband she is survived by a daughter, Nellie, and a son, Peter, to whom the sympathy of the community is extended.
Mrs. Drobot was a woman of many fine qualities, and she will be greatly missed by her many friends.
