Mary Ruth Gaffney Allen, 76, of Beaufort, SC, died Sunday December 3, 2006 at the home of her daughter in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Memorial services will be at 11:00 am Friday, December 8, 2006 at the Baptist Church of Beaufort. Interment will follow at Beaufort National Cemetery. Mrs. Allen was born November 9, 1930 in Gaffney, S.C., the daughter of Sara McMillan Gaffney and Benjamin M. Gaffney. Mrs. Allen graduated from Gaffney High School in 1947. She attended Limestone College. She worked for the US Civil Service for many years. She was the Assistant Librarian for the University of South Carolina - Beaufort Campus from 1980 until 1992. Mrs. Allen was a graduate of USC. Survivors include her daughter, Sara Allen Kayser and son-in-law, Darren Kayser of Virginia Beach; her brothers, Ben Gaffney, Jr. of Blythewood, S.C. and John Gaffney of Gaffney, S.C. and her sister, Elizabeth Gunter of Mableton, Ga. and three granddaughters, Caroline, Casey and Virginia Kayser. Copeland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
