Dr. Marion F. Gaffney, 53, of Westborough, died on Friday, August 7, 2009 at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, in Worcester, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Ruth (Lang) Gaffney. She was educated in Buffalo schools and earned a Masters of Education at Julliard School of Music and was an accomplished pianist. She also graduated from the University of Massachusetts Medical School earning a degree in Medicine, eventually specializing in the field of Psychiatric Medicine.

Dr. Gaffney was employed at UMass Medical Center, Worcester, until her illness forced her to stop working.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Westborough, the American Psychiatric Association and the Julliard Alumni. She was also an avid supporter of the ASPCA.

Survivors include her two sons, Ethan Harrison Gaffney and Maxim Alexander Gaffney both of Westborough; a brother, Harry Gaffney of Amorillo, TX; a sister, Josephine Belli and her husband, Douglas, of Plano, TX; her longtime companion, James Legare of N. Smithfield, RI; her former husband, Michael Salloum of N. Grafton; two nieces, one nephew and one great niece. She is also survived by many close and dedicated friends, especially Marianne Smith, Joy McGrath, Charles Fussell and Pastor John and Nancy Taylor of Westborough with whom the children will be residing.

Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 12, at 10:00 A.M. in the First United Methodist Church, 120 West Main St., Westborough. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Calling hours at the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough, are Tuesday, August 11, from 5 to 8 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the MSPCA or to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
