A native of Leominster he was a son of the late Andrew and Hannah (Tansey) Gaffney. He was employed by the C A Cross Co, as a sales represenative in the candy division for 49 years previous to his retirement 15 years ago.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs Helen Perrault of Needham; two sons, Paul F of this city and James A of Lunenburg; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mr Gaffney was active in sports in the Fitchburg and Leominster areas playing as a pitcher on the Industrial baseball teams and he was also a pitcher fot the Portland Club in the former International League.
The Funeral will be from the Smith Funeral Home, Thursday morning, with a solemn high mass of requiem at 9 in the Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in St Bernard's Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home are tonight from 7 to 9 and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p m.
