Mary's marriage certificate lists her age as 28, placing her birth between 1859-1860.

The 23 Apr 1910 census shows Mary, age 39 and born Ireland, living in Cambridge, Massachusetts with her two children, Lillian age 19, Edward age 18 and step-son Richard.

The 03 April 1920 census shows this same family living in Cambridge but their ages don't quite match the 1910 census figures. In the 1920 census, Mary's age is given as 58, Lillian's as 29, and Edward T's as 27. There is good agreement with the children, but a 10 year discrepancy with Mary's age.

The 1910 census would put her birth date at 1870-1871 and the 1920 census puts it at 1861-1862. This latter date is very close to the date derived from her marriage certificate. Given all of this, two things seem obvious:

(1) We may never know Mary's true age and (2) the Mary of the two census reports mentioned here is certainly Mary Gaffney, second wife of Joseph Finnick. A search for Edwards birth certificate should clear this up. Lillian's birth certificate gives her name as "Lillie" and names Joseph & Mary as her parents.

Found our Mary E. Finnick in the June 1900 census listed under "Fennick". This census gives a birth date of March 1868 in Ireland shows she immigrated 1886 and was employed as a nurse. Her daughter Lillian's (per census) birth date is given as August 1889 in Massachusetts and Edward's as May 1892 in Massachusetts. Living with them at the time of census is Mary E's step-son Richard, issue of Joseph and Elizabeth (nee Lynn). Richard's birth date is given as October 1893. He too was born in Massachusetts.

Mary's sister Annie (or Rannie) Gaffney arrived Boston in August 1900 from Sligo, Ireland. The ship's manifest gives her age as 35, her occupation as Seamstress and her sister Mary's address as 25 Garden St., Cambridge, Mass. It also indicates her final destination was to be Lynn, Mass. The ship's name was the Ivernia and she sailed from Queenstown, Ire.

The 1923 Cambridge, Mass. Directory shows "Mary, widow of Joseph" living at 12 Holly Ave with her son Edward T. Finnick who was working as a paper ruler at that time.

I did not find Mary listed in the 1930 census which could indicate she died before the date of that census.
