ATTERBERRY, Helen Mae, 91, of Zionsville, Indiana, formerly of Davis City, Iowa, died March 13, 2006. Funeral services were held at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon March 17 with Pastor Steve MeElroy officiating. Burial was in Davis City Cemetery, Davis City, Iowa.
Memorials may be given to the Davis City united Methodist Church or the Leon Library League.

HELEN MAE ATTERBERRY ... Helen Mae Atterberry of Zionsville, Indiana, 91, died Monday, March 13, 2006. she was born Helen Mae Galbraith, May 31, 1914 in Davis City, Iowa to Grover Cleveland "Cleve" Galbraith and Nettie Darlean Hamilton Galbraith. Her sister, Sarah Galbraith, died at birth in 1918.
Helen attended grade school and high school in Davis City and was the class valedictorian in both the eighth and twelfth grades, graduating in 1932. Education was very important to her throughout her accomplished life.
She enrolled in Graceland College, Lamoni, Iowa, in 1931 and earned a uniform county teacher's Certificate. She was hired to teach in a country school near Leon, Iowa. Her salary was $40 per month.
Helen married Dean Lowell Juergens on October 3, 1935. He preceded her in death in 1937. Helen went back to college at Graceland, received her A.A. degree and taught the 4th and 5th grades in Davis City.
She went back to school again at Drake University in 1942, earned a B.S. in education, with a major in business Education.
On august 12, 1944, Helen married Woodrow Ross Atterberry. He preceded her in death in 1969. She received a master's Degree in Education from Drake University in 1961, and a Master's Degree from Northeast Missouri State University in 1974. She taught school for thirty-five and a half years, and was highly regarded across the state of Iowa for her teaching abilities.
Helen moved to Zionsville, Indiana in 2000. Her hobbies included music, the stock market, writing, playing the piano; she was very accomplished and wrote and copyrighted several songs and lyrics. She dearly loved animals, dancing and spending time with her family.
Helen was a loving daughter, wife, mother of three children, grandmother of eight, and great-grandmother of eight. Survivors include children: Diane Juergens Fulton and husband LeRoy of Burkburnett, Texas, Betty Atterberry Cecil of Zionsville, Indiana, and William Atterberry of Shenandoah, Iowa; grandchildren: Cindy Johnson, Greg Fulton, Laura Stepp, Jason Atterberry, Amy Hochstetler, Erin Atterberry, Matt Cecil, and Jordan Atterberry; great grandchildren: Jessica, Tiffany, Jenna, Katie, Megan, Cade, Claire and Natalie.
