Clara was born to William J. and Chloe (Inman) Galbraith in Illinois. She came to Nebraska as a servant for the John Benson family in Schuyler until she married. She married John Allen on March 17, 1881 in Schuyler, Nebraska. The couple were parents of four children: Edith, Cora, Gladys, and Glen. Gladys and Glen both died as small children in Utica. Clara and her husband were both faithful members of the Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, served as Worthy Matron, and was a member of the Past Matrons' Club. Clara and John were married over 56 years before John passed away in 1938.
