Borton "Pete" Garfield of Hendersonville died peacefully Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, at the Elizabeth House.

Born in Cleveland and raised in Mentor, Ohio, he was the son of the late Rudolph Hills Garfield and the late Eleanor Borton Garfield. He is survived by his daughters, Suzanne Meade Garfield (John Whitehead) of St. Paul, Minn., Elizabeth Townley "Betsy" Garfield of Sacramento, Calif., and Molly Newell Garfield; his grandson, Salvatore Anthony "Sam" Miller; brother, Rudolph Hills "Bob" Garfield Jr., all of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; and many friends near and far.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Episcopal Church of St. John in the Wilderness, Flat Rock. A reception in the Parish Hall will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. John in the Wilderness, P.O. Box 185, Flat Rock, N.C. 28731 or Western Reserve Academy, 115 College St, Hudson, Ohio 44236. The family also greatly appreciates the extraordinary care he received at Elizabeth House, 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, N.C. 28731.
