A faithful member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Julia loved and cared deeply for each member of her own family and her church family. She served on various church boards and committees and was active in circle and support groups. Always putting others first, she will be remembered for her unconditional love, her amazing resilience and her beautiful spirit.
Julia married Cecil Wilson Belk on May 5, 1937; they were married for 55 years before he passed away on August 2, 1993. Survivors include sons, Pat Belk and wife, Sue, of Durham and Richard Belk and wife, Katherine, of Rocky Mount; daughters, Susan Taylor and husband, Tom, of Durham, and Judy Hutchins and husband, Hardy, of Durham; grandchildren, Ryan Belk, Sharron Britt, Bryan Taylor, Craig Taylor, Troy Hutchins, Luke Hutchins, Susanna Hutchins, Courtney Gardner, Conly Belk and Nathan Belk; sisters, Patricia Harmon and Mamie Williams; brother, Tom Gemayel and wife, Peggy; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, officiated by the Rev. Mark D. Stephens. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens immediately following the church service.
The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hudson Funeral Home.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2700 N. Roxboro Road, Durham, NC 27704.
