Darlington- Alfred Gertsch, 62, Darlington, was found dead Monday in the kitchen of his home. Lafayette County Coroner Richard Barth said the death was a suicide by gunshot. His wife, Margarita, was visiting a neighbor when the body was found by Victor Oechslin. Oeschlin had gone to the home to see if Mr. Gertsch was sick after he had failed to report for work at the Avon Locker plant, where he was employed.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Albert, Darlington, and Walter, Warren, Ill.; a daughter, Mrs. Everet Ramsey, Rockford, Ill., and five sisters in Switzerland.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday in the Immanuel Evangelical and Reformed church. The Rev. Melvin Schorer, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Union Grove cemetery. Friends may call at the Sharer Funeral Home until Wednesday noon.
