BASALT - Helen Gertsch Berg, 72, of Basalt, died Sept. 7, 1993, at her home of a respiratory disease.
She was born Aug. 20, 1921, at Midway, Utah, to Conrad and Elsie Durtschi Gertsch. She attended schools in Midway and graduated from Wasatch High School in Heber City, Utah.
On May 18, 1944, she married Ross L. Berg at Chicago. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Following their marriage, they lived in Salt Lake City for two years before moving to Basalt. She was working as a beautician when she retired.
She was an active member of the LDS Church and served as stake Primary and Mutual president. She had served a 30-month mission in the German extraction program. She enjoyed reading.
Survivors include [names deleted]. She was preceded in death by a son, three sisters and five brothers.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Firth LDS Stake Center in Basalt with Bishop Ronald Jensen officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Nalder Mortuary in Shelley and Saturday from 9;30 to 10:40 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Basalt Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials to the LDS missionary fund.
