Alexander "Alex" Giacometti, 73, of Saylorsburg, and most recently a resident of the Laurels in Old Forge, died Wednesday in the Northeast Hospice Unit of the Regional Hospital of Scranton after an illness. Born in South Scranton, son of the late Angelo and Josephine Pierangeli Giacometti, he was a graduate of Newark Technical High School, NJ. Alex worked as a successful self-employed cabinet-maker before his retirement. He also resided for a number of years in New Jersey, specifically in Piscataway and served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1959-60. A devout Catholic, he was a parishioner of Our Lady of Victory Church, Tannersville and Our Lady of Fatima Church, Piscataway, NJ. The funeral with military honors by AmVets Post 189 Honor Guard will be Monday at 9:30 AM from the Victor M. Ferri Funeral Home, 522 Fallon St., Old Forge with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 in St. Mary of the Assumption Church (Prince of Peace Parish), West Grace and Lawrence Streets, Old Forge. Interment and committal rites will be held Tuesday at 11:30 AM alongside his parents in Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway, NJ. Friends may call Monday morning from 9:00 – 9:30 at the funeral home.
