U.S. Congressman. He taught school in Massachusetts, (1890-1900) and engaged in the real estate business in 1900. Entering politics, he served in the Massachusetts State Senate, (1914-19). In 1922, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-seventh Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Joseph Walsh, reelected to the Sixty-ninth Congress and to the next eleven succeeding Congresses, serving until his death at age 76.
