Jean W. (Gifford) Beale, 77, of Marion died Monday September 27, 2010 at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the wife of the late Gordon H. Beale, Jr.
Born in Acushnet, the daughter of the late E. Borden and Irene W. (Grimshaw) Gifford, she was raised in New Bedford and lived in Mattapoisett before moving to Marion 43 years ago.

Mrs. Beale was formerly employed as an office manager at the Mattapoisett Nursing Home for 30 years until her retirement in 1997.

She was a graduate of New Bedford High School, Class of 1950. She was an avid bowler at Bowl-Mor Lanes for many years. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, knitting, and going to auctions.

Survivors include two children, Tracy G. Beale of Fairhaven and Melissa J. Beale of Marion; and a brother, William A. Gifford of Dartmouth.

A private family service was held on Wednesday morning at Old Landing Cemetery in Marion.
