"The death of Fitch Gilbert, a direct descendant of Abijah Gilbert, founder of the village of Gilbertsville, occurred suddenly Tuesday afternoon at his home in that village, following a heart attack. He was 77 years old. Mr. Gilbert and his wife lived in Gilbertsville during the summer, and in Aiken, S.C. the rest of the year. He was born in Eau Claire, Wisc. on November 6, 1882, a son of Fitch and Caroline (Lathrop) Gilbert, and as a youth, moved with his family to Cambridge, Mass. He graduated from Harvard College in 1906, and from Columbia Law School in 1909. He married the former Marie Stokes in 1914 ... He is survived by his wife; five stepchildren, Mrs. Joseph Campbell of Cooperstown, Albert C. Bostwick of Old Westbury, L.I., Mrs. Ogden Phipps of Roslyn, L. I., Dunbar C. Bostwick of Shelburne, Vt., and George H. Bostwick of Old Westbury; a sister, Mrs. Ralph R. Rumery of Short Hills, N.J.; and two nephews, John R. Rumery of Gilbertsville, and Richard G. Rumery of Short Hills. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11 o'clock from Christ Church in Gilbertsville with the Rev. Arthur Club, rector, officiating.
