MARILYN ELOIS (GILBERT) AMES
August 23, 1919 ~ December 10, 2010
"She was a bright and independent woman, full of grace and peace, who loved her family above all else. We will miss her."

Marilyn Elois (Gilbert) Ames, "Meg", was 91 when she passed away peacefully in her sleep in her Campbell, CA home on Fri., Dec. 10. For the last two years, she had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and then gall bladder cancer. Marilyn was born on Aug. 23, 1919 in Grapeland, TX. Her parents were James Marvin Gilbert and Lorena Darsey (Royall). She had two sisters, Nell Jeanette (Gilbert) Baker and Peggy (Gilbert) Wooley.
Marilyn graduated from Lamar Community College where she had a flair for drama.
She then worked as a secretary for Magnolia Oil Co. in Beaumont, TX, where she met her future husband. She married Irby Walter Ames in 1942 and moved to CA later in the 1940's. They enjoyed over 50 years together until he passed away in Sept. 1999.
Marilyn was a homemaker for over 60 years. She enjoyed sewing, cake decorating, crocheting, playing golf, and being with her family and friends. She published a book of skits that she used when she was a Cub Scout leader. She loved her part-time work as a bookkeeper and was very proud of balancing her checkbook down to the penny. She loved to line dance and took Spanish classes-she was saying "muchas gracias" almost until the day she passed away!
Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Carol Sumner, Santa Cruz, CA and Madeline Brattesani, Davis, CA; her son, Jerry Ames, Longview, WA; and grandchildren, Lacey and Mikenzie Ames, Vancouver, WA and Joseph and Lucas Brattesani, Davis, CA.
Her family held a private service for her in March. She was interred alongside her husband at Los Gatos Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, please send a memorial donation to New Life Covenant Church, 1660 Hamilton Ave. #205, San Jose, CA 95125.
