She was reared in Brandon and attended the First Presbyterian Church and the Brandon School. She graduated from Hillsboro High School, class of ’43, and attended Hill Junior College graduating Class ’45, before moving to Dallas to work for Braniff Airways for several years.
On February 14, 1948 Helen married the love of her life, Mr. Donald Fitzgerald Buie, of Mertens, at the Oakcliff Presbyterian Church. They moved to the Buie farm near Mertens where they lived, worked and reared their beautiful little family. They celebrated over 51 years together until Donald’s passing in 1999. Helen continued to live on the farm until their home was destroyed by fire in January 2008.
Along with Helen’s parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her sister; Carolyn Giles Counts, a very special cousin; Margaret Mash Martin. Helens survivors include, her only daughter; Cheryl Buie Lewis.
