Clarence "Gene" Eugene Glaspell, 82, of Boothsville, passed away Saturday (Oct. 26, 2013) at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg surrounded by his loving family following a long battle with cancer.

He was born in Boothsville on July 2, 1931, a son of the late Harvey Amos and Della Mae (Tucker) Glaspell.

Clarence proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy. He was a dairy farmer by trade, working for Bunner's Dairy where he pasteurized and homogenized milk. He was a faithful farmer who never missed a day of work.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, digging for ramps and watching his favorite television show, "The Dukes of Hazzard."

He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Mary (Spencer) Glaspell; three sons, Roger Glaspell and his wife Catherine, Timothy Glaspell and his wife Judy, and Jacob "Jake" Glaspell, all of Boothsville; three daughters, Regina Roseberry of Boothsville, Susan D'Amico and her husband Frank of Folson, and Daisy Glaspell of Boothsville; eight grandchildren, Clarence Glaspell, Priscilla King, Sarah Anderson, Jackie Edgell, Gary Ketterman, Samantha Glaspell, Amber Glaspell and Mandy Glaspell; and two great-grandchildren, Bristal Ketterman and Kayle Edgell.

Also surviving are two brothers, Howard Glaspell and his wife Willa of Fairmont, and Earl Glaspell of Bridgeport; two sisters, Annabelle Hayhurst and her husband Sonny of Idamay, and Betty Saunders and her husband Bill of Bridgeport; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor "Sue" Glaspell; four brothers, Silas Glaspell, James "Jim" Glaspell, Charles "Bud" Glaspell and Harvey "June" Glaspell; two sisters, Mary Ruth in infancy and Ruby Furbee; and a sister-in-law, Doris Glaspell.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Tuesday with Pastor Michael Richards officiating. Interment will follow at Claremont Cemetery in Marion County where full military honors will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard.
