Agnes E. Bence, 80, of 207 Charles St., died at her home Saturday morning after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Bence served as deputy commissioner of the Jefferson County Department of Social Services, retiring in 1978. She worked for the department for 43 years, starting out as a clerk-stenographer in 1935.

Born Oct. 8, 1916, in Watertown, she was a daughter of Dorr K. and Nellie Ludlum Gleason. She attended Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School and Immaculate Heart Academy, graduating
