Rev. Baxter Golightly, pastor of the Christian churches in Palacios and Bay City, died yesterday, Monday, June 16, at his home in Bay City. The funeral services were held Tuesday and were attended by a large congregation. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful. The service was conducted by Rev. G. T. Storey, pastor of the Presb. church in Bay City, and J. F. Eddins, pastor of the Presb. church in Palacios. Rev. J. P. Gilliam, pastor of the Bpt. church, Bay City, Rev. Mr. Hotchkiss, pastor of the Meth. church, Bay City; Dr. Driskill and the writer took part. Brethren Gilliam, Eddins and Hanks had been pastors in the same city with him. Bro. Gilliam three times, and it was a high tribute that all of them attended his funeral and had words of love and praise for him, and the words of the Presbyterian and Methodist pastors were equally full of praise for the departed. He left a wife, one son, and four daughters to mourn his going and yet no family ever had more to remember to comfort them. He was a good preacher, an industrious pastor, a devoted unselfish husband and father, and a nobler truer friend never lived. It is a cause of joy and pride to those of us who loved him that he had a worthy family. His cultured wife and his fine children are all creditable members of society, are all devoted christians. R. T. Hanks
