Magdalena G. ‘Helen' Cordova, 78, a resident of Barstow for 53 years, passed away Monday, May 17, 2004 at Reche Canyon Rehab and Convalescent in Ontario. She was born Feb. 22, 1926 in Belen, New Mexico.She worked as a housekeeper for Howard Johnson for 57 years and Desert Inn for 15 years in Barstow. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for 53 years. She loved to listen to music and dance. She enjoyed sewing and made blankets for each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Nora Filipovic; parents, Ruperto and Nicanova Gomez; sister, Didia Chavez; and brothers, Abel, Bennie, Arturo, Gil, Pime, and Abie Gomez. Survivors include her husband, Sisto M. Cordova; her children, Mercy and Nick Sanchez of Barstow, Arlene Garcia of Rancho Cucamonga, Margie and Ron Garcia of Barstow, and Mark Filipovic of Maryland; grandchildren, Valerie Foster, Mark Filipovic, Steven Sanchez, Dorinda Garcia-Prieto, Michael Filipovic, David Woolridge, Andrea Filipovic, and Kimberly Woolridge; great-grandchildren, Evan Filipovic, Madison Foster, Justin Johnson, Deana Canfield, Marisa Filipovic, Marlena Woolridge, Marcus Woolridge, Christian Prieto, Zachary Filipovic, Kylie Filipovic, and Marissa Woolridge; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Nick Gutierrez of Barstow; sister, Nila Baca of Denver; and sister-in-laws, Amalia Gomez, Ethel Gomez, and Carmen Gomez.
