Virginia Ruth (Grant) Duncan, 91, of Chuckey, died Tuesday at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport as a result of suffering a heart attack on Nov. 22.

Mrs. Duncan is a retired school teacher.

She was married to the now-late Fred B. Duncan on June 7,1930.

Mrs. Duncan taught school for 34 years in the following schools: Rickers from 1929-30, Campbells from 1930-31, Clear Springs from 1932-33, Martha Washington and Limestone from 1945-50, Oak Dale 1953, Chuckey High School from 1954-55 and Martin Boulevard Elementary in Baltimore, Md., from 1955-60.

The family said the last 15 years of her career were devoted to the second grade students at Chuckey Elementary. She retired in 1975.

Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law: Wylda Grant (Duncan) and Charles Gordon of Baltimore, and Myrna Iris (Duncan) Barrick of Chuckey; a son and daughter-in-law: Bryan L. and Dorothy Duncan of Boynton Beach, Fla.; and five grandchildren.

She was a daughter of the late David A. and Chassie Reeser Grant.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Jeffers Mortuary.

The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon in the mortuary chapel with interment in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. The Rev. Michael Morales, the Rev. Tony Duncan, and the Rev. Bill Duncan will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Vanis Davis, Gary Wykle, Earl Campbell, Marvin Janutolo, Ralph Johnston, Rex Pruitt, Carroll Remine and Steven Broyles
