Carl Martin Grass served in the U S Army stationed in Germany during W W I. He returned home and married Viola Fuller and they had a daugther Clara. He divorced and re-married on July 19, 1923 to Elma Munson of Albert Lea, Minnesota. They had 4 children, Laverne "Jim", Lyle, Roger and Vivian.
Carl deserted his family and changed his name to Martin Boe, living in various places. Eventually he re-married to Marie Gerson and later to Emelie Brand. One census shows him living in Winona working as a grocier.
Martin Boe died on September 21, 1969 and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona, Minnesota.
