Several members of the local fire department helped the Verona Rescue Squad in a futile attempt to save the life of Mrs. Thomas V. Smith of Overlook Road who was taken with a severe heart attack and asthma attack early Sunday morning and died Monday afternoon. The Verona Squad and the local firemen administered oxygen in hour shifts for fourteen hours. The family were very grateful for the aid given by the Verona Rescue Squad and Cedar Grove men. Mrs. Smith rallied on Sunday night, but after a relapse, died on Monday afternoon.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Smith is survived by two sons, J.H. Vance Smith with whom she made her home, and Edgar Smith of East Orange, two sisters, Mrs. Alice Schneider of Ridge Road, and Mrs. Emma Vandervort of East Orange, and a brother, Thomas Gray of Harper Terrace.
Services were held at the Colonial Home in East Orange this afternoon at 2 o'clock.
