She was born on November 27, 1920, in Clarksburg, WV, a daughter to the late Leroy Griffin and Amelia (King) Griffin.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Roscoe Jackson, and her second husband, Alphonso Hedgeman; three sisters, Eva, Eleana and Betty; nine brothers, James, Marion, Lawerence Homer, Lemar, Clarence, Julius, Oscar and Joseph. She was the last living member of her immediate family.
Evelyn was affectionately known as “Aunt Evie.” She was a people person and famous for her cooking and being the life of the party. Everyone was always welcome in her home. You could hear heartfelt laughter as soon as you reached her door.
Evelyn loved children and worked in the Grandparents Program at Adamston Grade School.
She leaves behind many nieces and nephews, too numerous to mention by name. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her!
Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., Clarksburg, on Saturday, August 13, 2011, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., where a funeral ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. with the Pastor Ramona Woods presiding. Interment will follow at Stonewall Park Cemetery, Stonewood, WV.
