Los Angeles Herald - June 1, 1907:

MOTHER DIES OF BROKEN HEART

Tragic Death of Son Kills Woman

Only Child Was Victim of Wreck of Special in Which Students Were Slaughtered and Mangled

Broken hearted over the tragic death of her only child, Mrs. Minnie Louise Franklin, wife of W. O. Franklin, a commercial traveler, died yesterday at the family home, 653 West Seventeenth street.

Ever since that fatal day in March when the college special train crashed into the overland and the laughing, fun-loving young people were plunged into gloom over the death of their comrades, the mother of young Charles Franklin, one of the victims, has never ceased to mourn for her only child and has been constantly under the care of a trained nurse.

Mrs. Franklin was only 38 years of age and was devoted to her home, but since the death of her only child had rapidly declined in health and passed away yesterday afternoon. The final arrangements have not been made by the grief-stricken husband, but it is expected that the funeral will be held Monday morning at Christ Church, where the funeral of the son was held barely two months ago. The interment will be in the family plot at Rosedale cemetery.
