MATTIE GRIFFIN CALINSKY, age 98, of Hemet, CA, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at Sun West Village in Hemet, CA. Mattie was born May 31, 1915 in Lincoln, Alabama. She was the daughter of the late James Andrew Griffin and the late Fannie Mae (Fain) Griffin. Mattie was a sales manager for Forest Lawn Mortuary for 18 years. Mattie was the first woman Regional Sales Manager for Forest Lawn and was honored five times as recipient of Sales Manager of the Year Award. Prior to that she worked during WWII as an aircraft inspector for Bechtel McCombs. "She was one of the Rosie the Riveters." She moved to California in 1946 and also worked at Douglas Aircraft as an inspector. She traveled extensively, visiting places such as Hong Kong, Singapore, China, Ireland and England, many countries in Europe, Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean, and most of the United States, especially Hawaii and Alaska She belonged to the Lady Elks club, Emblem Club, Delta Beta TAU Chapter. She also enjoyed playing bridge, reading, and gardening. She was a member of the Methodist church. She was preceded in death by her husbands, James Lee, Loney Wilson, Paul Osgood, Jack Buntin, and Andrew Calinsky. She is survived by her two sons: Charles Lee, San Diego, CA, John Allen Lee, Lincoln, CA, one sister: Frances O'Hare, Hemet, CA, one brother: Carl Griffin, Hemet, CA, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren. Her greatest joy, and pride were her family. Arrangements are being handled by Miller-Jones Mortuary & Crematory Hemet; 1501 West Florida Ave, Hemet, CA. Interment will be private at San Jacinto Valley Cemetery, San Jacinto, CA. Published in Press-Enterprise on Feb. 9, 2014.
