Mafalda "Muffie" Albano, passed at her home on October 6, 2012. She is survived by her children, Jacqueline Barry, Sandra MacFadyen and son in law Kenneth and Michael Albano all of Longmeadow; three grandchildren, Jonathan, Michael , Christopher Albano; and several nieces and nephews. Muffie was a very proud mother who always said her children were her greatest accomplishment. Her children will dearly miss the "world's most wonderful mother". She was born July 9, 1914 in Springfield, MA, the daughter of Immaculata (Silvestri) Grimaldi and Luciano Grimaldi. She grew up in Springfield and graduated from Commerce High School. She and her husband Jack moved to Longmeadow in 1938. Mafalda was a member of the Greater Springfield Association of Realtors for 36 years and an active member of this community serving as former President of the Hampden County Democratic Committee, Longmeadow Democratic Committee, Over Sixty Club of the Longmeadow Council on Aging, and former Secretary of the Greater Springfield Senior Services, Inc. for 30 years. She was also an active member of the Older Women's League, Massachusetts Senior Action Council, Pioneer Valley Transit Authority for MA Services for Seniors, Italian Cultural Center, Springfield School Department Volunteer Program and a MA Silver-Haired Legislator for twenty years. She was known for her famous recipe for Mayor Mike's Pasta Sauce which raised thousands of dollars to benefit scholarships and fuel assistance throughout the City. She was predeceased by her husband Jack who died in 1979, sisters, Beatrice and Amelia, brothers and sisters in law, James and his wife Lillian Grimaldi , Alfonso and his wife Claire Grimaldi and brother, Mike Raffaele. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, at the Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, (413) 525-2800, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow. Her funeral service and burial are private. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice . www.forastierefuneralhome.com
