Born March 23, 1929, in Tennille, GA, he was the son of the late Ira Perry and Mary (Horne) Grimsley and the husband of the late Mary Jo (Simpson) Grimsley.
A 1947 graduate of Fairforest High School, he was retired from Norfolk-Southern Railway with over 30 years of service.
A former minor league baseball player, he was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in 1947 and played minor league baseball in the South Atlantic League where he played for the Spartanburg Peaches. He played in the South Atlantic League All-Star Game in 1949. He also played with several textile mill teams in the early 1950's.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, a former president of the Local United Transportation Union, and was Baptist by faith.
Survivors include a son, Christopher Perry Grimsley and his wife Catherine of Atlanta, GA; a daughter, Elizabeth Dawn Jones and her husband Steven of Spartanburg; a sister, Pearl Henderson of Myrtle Beach; two granddaughters, Ashley Brooke Jones and Taylor Nicole Jones, both of Spartanburg; a niece, Lorna Henderson of Myrtle Beach; and a daughter-in-law, Susan Grimsley of Woodruff.
He was predeceased by a son, Charles B. "Buddy" Grimsley, Jr.
Visitation was 7:00-9:00 PM on Thursday, August 24, 2006, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 25, 2006, at Floyds Greenlawn Chapel. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park.
