Mrs. Derrick was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Calvin Bauknight Derrick, Sr., a brother, Douglas E. Grimsley and a sister, Dorothy J. Grimsley.
Mrs. Derrick lived in Florence for the majority of her life where she attended Florence public schools. She received her Bachelor's degree from Winthrop University and became employed with the City of Florence. She and Calvin met through their work, married, and she spent the rest of her life being a homemaker and caring for her 5 children. She was a lifelong member of Central United Methodist Church, where she taught children's Sunday school, kept the nursery, and was involved in Boy Scouts. She was an active member in the UMW, Young-At-Heart seniors group and Joy Singles Group. Her love of music was evident with her piano playing and being a member of the handbell choir for 24 years.
She is survived by 5 children, Karen A. Derrick of Greer, SC, C.B. (Tammy) Derrick of Florence, Chris (Debra) Derrick of Darlington, SC, Tony (Cindy) Derrick of Barboursville, VA, and Tina (Roger) Yongue of Ladson, SC; 4 grandchildren, Emmy Ammirati, Ryan Derrick, Wesley Derrick, and Sabrina Yongue; special sister-in-law, Coleen Derrick of Gilbert, SC; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, December 9, 2013, at the Methodist Manor in the Mary Alice Ingram Chapel. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. A private entombment for family will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, directed by Cain Funeral Home.
The family would like to thank the staff of Methodist Manor for the compassionate care, love and concern given to Mrs. Derrick.
