Brunswick lost an institution on May 2 when Robert E. Griner of Brunswick passed away.

He was predeceased by his parents, Edna May and Lacy Milton Griner.

He is survived by his sons, Benton and Robert; his sister, Dorothy Walter (John); two nephews and a niece.

Bobby graduated from Glynn Academy in 1962 and went on to Southern Georgia Technical and Vocational School for Automotive Repair (Redneck Tech), graduating in 1964. After working at Babcock & Wilcox as a welder, he joined his father's business, Auto Electric and continued there until his death.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter from the time of his first hunting trip with Willie Harris at 15. He enjoyed hydroplane boat racing and stock car racing early on.

He enjoyed spending time on Cumberland Island, Sapelo Island and in Waynesville with Lloyd Robinson. He loved cooking at Camp Glynn for friends and family for a birthday or for no reason at all. At any given time, he would have a pot cooking at the shop.

Honorary pallbearers will be the regulars at Auto Electric, where Bobby held court daily. You couldn't leave the shop without him giving you oranges or donuts or something. It was his way to share everything with everyone. A more generous man won't come this way again soon.

A celebration of his life will be held May 4, at the Two Way Fish Camp Pavilion at 4 p.m.
