Kristopher Aaron "Kris" Griner, 31, of Columbus, died at 2:23 a.m. Thursday, January 2, 2014, in Indianapolis.

Kris was born in Columbus on September 11, 1982, the son of Kenneth Griner and Anita Moore Smith. He attended St. Peter's Lutheran School, Northside Middle School, and Columbus North High School.

Kris's love of athletics started at the early age of five. He loved all sports, excelling and playing on traveling soccer, baseball, and AAU basketball teams. He was an avid Indiana Hoosiers fan. Kris loved camping at Lake Monroe, fishing with his dad and Grandpa Moore as well as driving the family's fishing boats. Kristopher loved his daughter Kaitlyn, son Avery and his family very much. Kris will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his mother, Anita (Steve) Smith of Bloomington; his father, Kenneth (Jana) Griner of Columbus; his daughter, Kaitlyn Skinner of Columbus; his son, Avery Hill of Columbus; and his brother, Keith Griner of Seymour.

A private celebration of Kris's life will be held for his family and close friends at a later date. Arrangements were made by Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street. In keeping with Kris's wishes, cremation is planned.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army's Harbor Light in Indianapolis through the funeral home.
