Ruthanna G. Chamness, 88, of Warsaw, died at 7:05 p.m. Monday, October 11, 2010 at Grace Village, Winona Lake.

She was born September 7, 1922 in Paw Paw Township, Wabash County, Indiana a daughter of Fred Andrew and Hazel Marie (Oswalt) Gurtner. Her formative years were spent in Wabash County. She graduated from Urbana High School.

On June 28, 1953 she was united in marriage to Robert Morris Chamness at the Friends Church in Wabash. In 1962 they moved to Warsaw where they owned and operated the Chamness Funeral Home. Mr. Chamness preceded her in death.

Her memberships included Trinity United Methodist Church.

Surviving relatives include her daughter-in-law, Brenda Chamness; two granddaughters, Autumn Chamness and Alyssa Chamness, both of Indianapolis; and two great granddaughters, Maya and Livi.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, David Chamness; a brother, Glen L. Gurtner; and a sister, Helen L. Alger.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 832 E. Center Street, Warsaw with visitation from 12 Noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. The private burial will be in Friends Cemetery, Wabash.

Preferred memorials are to A.L.S.
