Edgar served as a First Lieutenant & Bombardier on B-24D #42-40217, 372nd Bomber Squadron, 307th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Jefferson County, Texas prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on November 10, 1941, prior to the war, in Houston, Texas. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the refining of petroleum and also as Single, without dependents.

B-24D #42-40217 took off from Carney Field on Guadalcanal on a bombing mission against Kahili Airfield on southern Bougainville along with 23 other bombers.

After releasing their bombs B-24D #42-40217 was attacked by possibly a Japanese Zero causing damage to the #1 & #2 engines and they crashed into the sea during the war.

Edgar was declared "Missing In Action" in this attack.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
