CHATHAM - Ruth N. (Banks) Hackett, 83, died yesterday at her daughter's home in Harwich.

She was the wife of Chester I. Hackett, who died in 1984.

Born in Natick, Mrs. Hackett was raised in Easton, where she was a 1932 graduate of Oliver Ames High School. She moved to Chatham from Easton in 1946.

She was the former owner of The Dutch Oven, The Clam Bar and The Port Fortune Restaurant and Lounge, all in Chatham.

Mrs. Hackett was past matron of the Easton and Pleiades Chapter No. 91, Chatham Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Eastward Ho! Country Club, Chatham.

She was an avid golfer, bridge player, bowler and traveler.

Surviving are a son, Gary I. Hackett of Taunton; four daughters, Valerie J. Gaus of Harwich, Brenda S. Lucas of West Chatham, Diane R. Browning of North Chatham and Rhonda L. Hackett of Harwich; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a cousin.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday in Union Cemetery, Chatham.
