Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Chet, parents, Helen (Murphy) Hackett and Edward W Hackett, Sr., and brothers Edward, Jr., and John. She is survived by her seven children, Sandy (Greg), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Jim (Kelly), Crofton, Maryland, Cynthia (Rod) Shoaff, Lakeland, Florida, Don (Regina), Heidelberg, Germany, Alan (Lenore), North Weymouth, Massachusetts, Ron (Elizabeth), New York City, and Richard (Thorie), Mashpee, Massachusetts; grandchildren Peter, Greg, Jr., Libby, Melissa, Jillian, Graham, Tom, Maggie, Caitlin, Shannon, Lia, Tristan, Sam, Ava, and Kai; brothers Albert and Donald (Ruth) Hackett and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was born May 26, 1934, in Milo, Maine. She graduated from Milo High School, completed classes in nursing school, and married the love of her life, Chet Buck, in 1953. She devoted herself to family life with Chet as they raised their seven children. Among Mary and Chet's proudest accomplishments was having all seven of their children graduate from college and become kind and caring individuals.
Mary worked as a Teacher's Aide in the Barnstable School System. Her favorite roles were as wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt. "Grammy" was adored by all her grandchildren and made each one feel unique and special.
She also loved the Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics, as well as her pets Brutus, Misty, Sable, Muffie, and Mittens, and she enjoyed reading, travel, walking, and playing Bunco.
Mary attended St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Hyannis and St. Timothy Catholic Church in Lady Lake, Florida.
Everyone who knew Mary loved her smile, warmth, enthusiasm, kindness, generosity, and hugs. She will be greatly missed.
A Visitation will take place at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home on Thursday, October 27 from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be held Friday, October 28 at 10 a.m. at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Hyannis. Interment will follow immediately at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, Massachusetts.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to: MSPCA Animal Shelter, 1577 Falmouth Rd., Centerville, MA 02632, in honor of Mary Buck.
