Hazel Vadie Haden Atkins Left this earth October 11, 2005 to be with her beloved husband, Vern Sr. who preceded her in death. Hazel was born in Rogersville, MO. On April 7, 1920 and spent 60 years in Indiana raising her two sons, Vern Jr. and John. She was married to Vern Atkins for 52 wonderful years.
Hazel sold shoes at L. Strauss & Co., Gillman and Stout's. She and Vern had an antique business for years. Besides being a wife, mother, homemaker, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law and friend, she loved to fish, go to garage sales, cook an intriguing new dish and bake. She was very proud of her blue ribbon she won at the Indiana State Fair for her Chocolate Pie. She attended her 65th high school reunion and was greeted by most of her champion volleyball teammates. What a time they had reminiscing. Being first chair for french horn was something she was very proud of.
She leaves behind her two sons, Vern (Sharron) and John (Dianna); three grandchildren, Vern III (Diane), Krista May (Terry), Richard (Lisa) and seven great-grandchildren, Vern IV, Cheyenne, Max, Miles, Katie, Kiley and Zachary; three nieces; two nephews and many great nieces and nephews in Missouri.
Private graveside services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Institute for Blindness. Arrangements entrusted to Flanner & Buchanan Washington Park East Funeral Center.
