Dorothy A. Bravo, 86, of Oklahoma City, died suddenly at her home on Oct. 21, 2009. She was born Sept. 22, 1923 in Mangum, OK. She attended Mangum Junior College and Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, OK. She joined the Navy Waves in 1945, but the war ended before she reported for duty. She moved to La Junta, CO to work at the military base, but it was closing, so she became the time keeper at the Holly Sugar Factory. Dorothy met her future husband, Rocky Bravo, at a neighborhood dance, and they were married on Aug. 18, 1946. They moved to Norman, OK and then to Oklahoma City, where she resided until her death. In 1970, she earned her Master Degree of Education from Central State College, then taught mathematics for 15 years at Taft Jr. High and Putnam City Central Jr. High. Dorothy was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, Cub Scout Leader, reading tutor, St. Anthony Hospital volunteer and member of the Cardinal Extension Homemakers. She was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church for 57 years and most recently was in the Share and Care Group and Rosary Makers. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, making scrubbies, water exercise, collecting thimbles and spoons, playing in the bell choir at Christ the King, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by Rocky, her husband of 55 years; her parents, Elvys E. and Mary Doyle Hadlock; her brothers, Eugene Hadlock and Gary Hadlock. She is survived by her seven children and their spouses: Mary Lu and Dale Schmid of Cottage Grove, OR; Susi and Charles Hobbs of Okla. City; Linda and Ken Farrell of Okla. City; Leslie and Ben Bravo of Houston, TX; Nancy Bravo and John Christensen of Eugene, OR; Alan Bravo of Conifer, CO; and Janet Henderson of Edmond. She is also survived by her grandchildren and their spouses and great-grandchildren: Lori and John Hester, Kathleen and Clare; Michele Howard; Kerry and Don Reeder, Camille, Alyssa and Nathan; Chris and Paivi Hobbs and Sofia; Sean and Jenifer Sullivan, Avery and Spencer; Kelly Farrell and partner Julie Cumberland; Andy Sullivan; Camille and Josh Kilbourne; Adam Bravo; Dana and Whitney Spinks; Laura Bravo; Steven Henderson and Sarah Henderson. Viewing will held Monday, Oct. 26, from 2-8 p.m., with the family available from 5-8 p.m., at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper, 6600 Broadway Extension. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tues., Oct. 27, at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 8005 Dorset Drive. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, 7801 Northwest Expressway.
