SANTEE, Calif. — Marjorie Marie Hafeman Dilley died July 16 at her home in Santee, Calif. Marjorie, known as Marj, was born Nov. 26, 1923, at the Hafeman farm 14 miles southwest of Dorrance. She attended local grade and high schools in Kansas and graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 1943. Marj attended Wilson High School her freshman year. She attended Fort Hays State College to prepare for teaching in Kansas grade schools. Marj taught two years in Cimarron.
Marj married Harvey Beddow in San Diego, Calif., on July 15, 1948. Four children were born to the union: Mark Beddow, Bradley Beddow, Donna Beddow and Dayna Muir. Harvey preceded Marj in death in 1973. Following Harvey's untimely death, Marj developed and owned a children's care service which she operated for 18 years. Marj married Lemuel Dilley in 1991. He died in 2007.
Marj was active in the Young Ladies Institute, and the Holy Trinity Altar and Rosary Society.
Marj died after a period of deteriorating health and at the time of death was surrounded by her children, family and close friends. Her death is deeply felt by her children, her brothers Gene (Betty) Hafeman and Bill (Jane) Hafeman and sister, Patricia Henry; and four grandchildren, Melanie, Kyle and Matthew Beddow and Jackie Muir. Marj was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ann Hafeman, and two sisters, Gerry Purma and Donna Consoli.
Funeral services were to be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, El Cajon, Calif. Viewing and rosary services were held on Monday at El Cajon Mortuary. Interment was at El Cajon Cemetery.
