Aberdeen--Mass of Christian burial for Ruth G. Hazel, 89, of 621 Second Avenue S.E., will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 215 N. Archer Street. The Rev. Marck Lichter will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Schriver's Memorial Mortuary, 414 Fifth Avenue N.W., is in charge of arrangements. A liturgical wake service will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
She died Thursday, January 22, 1998, at St. Luke's Midland Regional Medical Center.
Ruth G. Wertz was born November 2, 1908 to E. C. and Clara (Carlson) at Aberdeen. She graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1926 and went to work at a local dry cleaner. She married Jack Hagel in October 1934 at Aberdeen, where they made their home. She worked at Standard Clothing Store Co. as a seamstress, then at the New York Store from 1951 until the store closed. She then worked at The Main until retiring at age 77. Her husband died in 1951. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Mary's Altar Society.
Survivors include one brother, Erving C. Wertz Jr. of Portland, Oregon; and one sister, Jean Mardian of Sun Valley, Nevada. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one sister and two brothers.
