Delphine Hairston Adkins, was called home on Saturday, August 17, 1996. She was born on December 11, 1919 in Cascade, Va., the daughter of the late Joe Riley and Nancy Tate Hairston. She was the youngest of 13 brothers and one sister, all who preceded her in death. Delphine became a Christian early in life. She was a member of Bibleway Pentecostal Apostolic Church, where she served on the Senior Choir and Pastor's Aide Committee. She was united in marriage with Jim Henry Adkins on December 26, 1939. Of this union, there were six children and one adopted son. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Reynolds Cobbs. She is survived by her husband, Jim Adkins; five children, Cecelia Adkins Childress, Annie A. (Barry) Gary, Elder Joe J. (Susie) Adkins, Shirley B. (Johnny) Neal, Brenda I. (Harvey) Davis, Michael J. Hairston; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; nine sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a special friend, Madline Childress. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Bibleway Pentecostal Holiness Church, with Elder R. K. Ingram officiating. Burial in Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the church. Arrangements by Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home.
