Matilda Estelle "Essie" Hairston was the daughter of Pinkney Madison and Julia Catherine Wallis Hairston of Marietta, Cobb County, Georgia.

On Jan. 19, 1890, Matilda Estelle Hairston married Albert Clarence Green in Cobb County, GA, (Cobb County Marriage Book C., 1882-1890, p. 542). License #1084 (listed as A.C. Green and M.E. Hairston) They were married by M.C. Garmon, M.G.

Later, they had several children: Clarence E., John M. Fred W., Guy G. Estelle B., Paul, Catherine and Frank Green.
