Lovilah Engeland, the daughter of Harry E. and Sarah L. (Forrest) Hall was born on December 30, 1922 at her parent’s home near Willow City, North Dakota. She died at the age of 91 years on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby, North Dakota.

Lovilah was raised in the home of her parents and attended country school a few miles from home. After her education, she began cooking for a local rancher and later for Johners Café in Towner. On April 6, 1941, she was united in marriage to Bjarne W. Engeland at Barton Lutheran Church in Barton. The couple made their home east of Rugby for a short time before moving to the Engeland family farm after Bjarne’s father died. In 1958, Bjarne and Lovilah purchased their own farm in rural Barton where they raised their seven children. In later years of their marriage, the couple loved to travel and she continued to travel after Bjarnes death on March 11, 2008. Lovilah continued to live on the farm until September 2013 when she moved to the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby.

Lovilah was a member of the Barton Lutheran Church until moving to Rugby then became a member of First Lutheran Church. She loved to quilt in the winter and tend to her beautiful flower garden in the summer. She quilted every child and every grandchild a blanket. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Lovilah is survived by her daughters, Carol Engebrit of Rugby, Bonnie (Ed) Walter of Dunseith, Donna (Tom) Malchow of Las Vegas and Sarah Connelly of Rugby; her sons, Larry (Sandy) of Towner, David (Cindy) and Joel (Lana) both of Rugby; 22 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; a twin sister, Leona Nelson of Rugby; several nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Fred Hall; sisters, Dorothy Leslie, Elizabeth ‘Lizzy’ Whalen, Eva Wesby and Daisy Hall; and her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2014 at First Lutheran Church in Rugby with burial in the East Barton Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. Pastor Mike Pretzer, officiating.Anderson Funeral Home Rugby
