DOROTHY McGORY HALME, of 1367 Mecklenburg Road, Ithaca, NY died Saturday, June 5, 2004 at Lakeside Nursing Home, Ithaca, NY. Mrs. Halme was born at Burnside, PA the oldest daughter of the late Ney and Zula Wetzel Rowley. She was a long time resident of Tompkins County and was graduated from Dryden High School in 1936. She was employed years ago at Finney Motors and later was a waitress at several area restaurants. Dorothy was a life member of the Leonard T. Spaulding American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Unit 1134 where she had held many offices. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 961 at Ithaca. At one time she was the Women's NYS Field Archery Champion. Dorothy enjoyed gardening, bird watching and needlework.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Everett Halme of Ithaca, three sons, Michael J. (Joanne) McGory of Somerville, NC, Jack D. McGory of Brooktondale and Randy J. (Mary) McGory of Cortland; two step children, Linda King and David Halme both of Freeville; four sisters, Dora Seltzer of Cortland, Ruth Sweetland of Dryden, Nellie Hunt of Freeville and Mildred Brown of Fort Myers, FL; thirteen grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. David C. Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Friends are invited to call from 7 to 9 PM Tuesday at the funeral home, 55 West Main Street, Dryden, NY. Memorials are graciously directed to Hospicare, 172 East King Road, Ithaca, NY 14850.
