"Oldest Woman is Dead at 101: Mrs. Catharine Applegate, the oldest woman in Ocean County, died at her home in Silverton Wednesday at the age of 101 years. Mrs. Irving Towsend, proprietor of the Albion Hotel, Asbury Park, the dead centenarian's granddaughter, was notified.
Mrs. Applegate was the wife of the late Jacob P. Applegate of Silverton and the daughter of Capt. John Halsey [and Mercy Fischer], widely known in Ocean County. Her sister, Miss Sarah Halsey, is a resident of Bradley Beach. Besides the relatives mentioned, two daughters survive, Miss Eleanor Applegate of Silverton, and Mrs. Sarah V. Polhemus of Lakewood."
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Silverton M.E. Church. "
